      Amador County Classroom Traffic School

On June 14th 1854 Amador was born. Amador County is the only county in the state named after a native Californian - Jose Maria Amador, a wealthy ranchero before the gold rush, whose great ranch covered much of what is now Amador Valley near Danville. He and his employees mined along a creek in this county in 1848 and 1849. That creek became known as Amadore's Creek, and soon after, camps called Amadore Crossing and South Amadore or Amadore City were founded. Miners in the latter camp in 1852 first petitioned that a proposed new county be called "Amador" In 1854, when legislation dividing Calaveras was debated, a motion to name the new county Amador instead of Washington was adopted.

If you received a citation in Amador County, California please be aware of the following regulations for classroom-based traffic school as outlined by the California Department of Motor Vehicles:

Any person(s) involved in the offering of, or the soliciting for, a Completion Certificate for traffic school attendance in which the person receiving the certificate does not attend, or does not complete the minimum required time of classroom traffic school instruction may be found guilty of violating Section 134 of the Penal Code, a felony. A court may refer you to a traffic violator school at any time. However, California Vehicle Code Section 1808.7 mandates that only one citation in an eighteen (18) month period be masked from public view on your driving record. The eighteen (18) month period is calculated from citation/violation date, not the traffic school class attendance date.

Notwithstanding an emergency, when canceling less than four days prior to a traffic school class, the traffic school shall offer to provide students an alternate class, at a cost not to exceed the cost of the department completion certificate and any other certificate required by the court. When canceling four or more days in advance of a traffic school class, the traffic school is entitled to either refer students back to the list to find another traffic school provided they do not make reference to a specific traffic school or offer to provide students an alternate traffic school class, at a cost not to exceed the cost of the department traffic school completion certificate and any other certificate required by the court. When you have completed the course, the traffic school will issue you a completion certificate. It is your responsibility to return the certificate to the court.

All traffic school classes must be comprised of 400 minutes of instruction, excluding time for registration, breaks and lunch. It is illegal for a traffic violator instructor to intentionally cut instruction time short. You may attend any traffic school listed in any area, unless the court instructs you otherwise. In addition to any court fee, a fee will be charged by the traffic school. While the overall traffic safety information imparted is similar, the methods of instruction and class fees vary. You may wish to call a variety of schools to determine what traffic school you wish to attend.

If you need an extension of time, please contact the court which imposed the sentence.
